As the Asian population at Cornell University grew, the need for unity and strength against racial stereotypes and misunderstandings increased. Five dedicated young men joined together from different cultures and backgrounds in order to help educate the student body, build friendships, and make leaders. Frank Hsieh, Wellie Chiang, Hyoung Kyu Oh, Li Liang, and Michael Chang pledged their beliefs in the ideals of Pi Delta Psi, and established the Kappa Colony at Cornell University in the Spring semester of 1998. The fraternity continued to grow in the following semesters, and in Spring of 2001 earned full chapter status.
As the first Asian cultural fraternity on campus, Pi Delta Psi strives to break the negative stereotypes commonly projected on Asian cultures. Our chapter holds several events every semester to help the Cornell and Ithaca community understand and accept the Asian population. Our chapter has also recieved awards for our service to the community.
The Kappa Chapter continues to grow as new brothers come together with a common vision to further empower and unify the Asian community. As brothers of Pi Delta Psi, we carry the goals, values, ideals, and objectives of the fraternity and instill them at Cornell University.
