The meaning of being in a cultural fraternity is that the brothers of
Pi Delta Psi are constantly learning from and teaching each other about
Asian cultures and traditions as a way to enrich the brotherhood as a
whole. In fact, the pledging process for our fraternity involves a lot
of cultural education, both about your own culture and the cultures of
the brothers. The cultural aspect of Pi Delta Psi gives each of the brothers
an incredible wealth of resources to learn from, and to spread their own
education and understanding.
Pi Delta Psi at Cornell University is working on bringing cultural programming
available to all students on campus. As part of our committment to servicing
the community and broadcasting the richness of our diversity, we have
brought and continue to bring PDPsi Original programming and events to
the University and the greater Ithaca area.
Since 2000, Pi Delta Psi at Cornell Univeristy has worked hard to bring
inspiring, up-and-coming Asian American artists to perform on campus.
In 2001, we brought Dennis Kim from the spoken word group "I Was Born
With Two Tongues", bassist Darius Savage, and spoken word group Feedback
to perform absolutely free at the newly renovated Robert Parcel Union.
The event was met with great anticipation and attendance, which fueled
our efforts to bring him again in 2002 as a solo show. On the eve of the
Lunar New Year, Dennis Kim performed for a second time with new material
to a packed WSH Memorial Room. During this performance, we opened up the
stage to performers from Cornell including martial arts, the Asian American
Playhouse, and an open mic hour where anyone could perform any act on
stage for a cash prize.
The Kappa Chapter continues to work hard in exposing the Cornell and Ithaca
communities to the Asian American artist. If you would like to make a
special request for a specific artist, please feel free to contact us
(see the brothers page). We're always open to suggestions. Be sure to
look out for other PDPsi Artist events coming 2003 and 2004.
